Great Pyramids of Giza
These three majestic, age-defying structures are the big Giza attractions and stand at the heart of all the attractions in Giza—the Great Pyramids. The pyramids have been built as magnificent tombs for the Pharaohs of Egypt and are the only remaining wonders of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Great Pyramid of Khufu: This one is the largest of the three, formerly greater than a shade of 146.6 meters in height—or 481 feet. This pyramid was constructed using millions of blocks of limestone and is one of the amazing feats of ancient engineering.
The Pyramid of Khafre: Slightly smaller in size but equally impressive is the pyramid of Khafre, known for its peculiar design and the Great Sphinx of Giza, which stands nearby.
The Pyramid of Menkaure: Being the smallest of all three, Menkaure's pyramid has its distinguishing features and the beautiful statues found within the burial chamber.
The Great Sphinx of Giza
There stands the Great Sphinx, that fantastic sculpture of a lion couchant with the head of a Pharaoh, renowned for his great size and placid expression. This enigmatic figure captures the imagination of everyone coming to visit him.
The Solar Boat Museum
Located by the Great Pyramid, the Solar Boat Museum revealed the Khufu Ship, which is made out of wood. It is stunningly well-preserved and must be from the Fourth Dynasty, possibly for a Pharaoh's journeys, by finding a trade routes.
The Sound and Light Show in Giza
Guaranteed to make your evening unforgettable, this is a sound and light display par excellence at the Giza Sound and Light Show. A spectacular show lighting up the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx in the night sky, together with a narrative dramatized in ancient Egyptian history. The Djoser Step Pyramid
A short trip away from Giza, in the necropolis of Saqqara, is the Pyramid of Djoser. A forerunner of the pyramids at Gizah, this step pyramid constructed during the Third Dynasty is the oldest known pyramid in Egypt and represents a great piece of the architectural evolution of Egypt.
The Imhotep Museum.
Next to the Pyramid of Djoser, the Imhotep Museum tells the story of the existence and feats of Imhotep, architect of the step pyramid. The exhibits of this museum encompass some artifacts from the Necropolis of Saqqara, together with particulars relative to early pyramid building techniques.
The Ruins of Memphis
Only a short drive from Sakkara, Memphis was the ancient capital of Egypt. Much of the city is in ruins, but one still gets a feel of this city, which once was. Notable highlights include:
Partly reconstructed, this is one of the world's largest standing statues, a colossus of Ramses II—a seated Ramses II detailing the greatness of Memphis's past. The Alabaster Sphinx: This is another fine find from Memphis, done in alabaster to present a stunning portrayal of ancient Egyptian skill.
The Memphis Museum. These variety artifacts from that ancient city—like statues, stelae, and other relics—are on show at the Memphis Museum in Cairo, testifying to the importance of Memphis as a political and cultural center throughout ancient Egypt.
